The excellent chassis and suspension give the Dart a real edge on the bland competition. Likewise, you are never going to confuse the Dart for anything else when it comes time to drive it. It has just the right amount of styling to make it fun, without being ridiculous. It has a ton of charisma, with the Rallye – and even without the orange paint – the Dart stands out in a crowd.

Conclusionĭespite the rough edges, the Dart is still an appealing car. The Dart rates a five star overall score from the NHTSA. But at a list price of more than $22,000, they let the Dart down in the face of the opposition.ĭespite the occasionally cheap feel, Dodge has not cut corners on safety. I never even had a dog in the car! These are hardly unforgivable sins. The door panels and center console are both made of scratchy black plastic, and the cloth upholstery hangs on to dog hair and dirt like nothing else I have ever seen. Not only that, but some of the interior materials are decidedly down-market. Despite the price, the Dart lacks true climate control. That being said, the interior is not all good. There is also quantity the interior of the Dart is shockingly large compared to the overall size of the car.

The effect looks good, and provides a sense of class and quality. In the Rallye, this unit is surrounded by hand-stitched leather.

Most of these features are wrapped up in a very well designed dash and infotainment cluster. In fact, the system on the Dart is downright better than the ones on plenty of $200,000 hyper-luxury cars. My $22,250 Dart came with an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, a reverse camera, navigation, satellite radio, split folding rear seats and a very nice six speaker stereo system.Īs Digital Trends has said before, Uconnect is one of our favorite infotainment systems. Thankfully, Dodge hasn’t skimped out on the toys. Trust me, it is the way to enjoy this car. rev the valves off, and wave your arms around. Better yet, this is the perfect engine to appreciate the car’s Alfa roots. This engine delivers an EPA rated 32 mpg (though actual use suggests a figure of more like 35).

Instead I would go for the 1.4-liter FIRE MultiAir Turbo with a manual transmission. It’s a decent enough engine, but at 27 combined mpg, the mileage is merely average and the performance doesn’t quite make up for it. To really get the most out of this car, I wouldn’t choose the 2.4-liter. The Dart on the other hand is like a big plate of jalapenos you might get burned, but you are going to get a hell of a lot more excitement out of it. The Dart Rallye requires input and effort to drive, but it rewards you with some hair-on-fire fun.Your average small car might be nice to drive, but so lacking in personality that it is like trying to plow through a big bowl of plain oatmeal. I use this car for sales and it definitely stands out against the countless FIT's and Prius's next to me. Not to say the dual exhaust actually growls once you break it in. If you want an even more distinctive look, by the blacktop package that gives you bigger rims that are painted in a nice glossy black, blacked out tail lamps and front lamps, and unique interior finishes that really make the car look more expensive then it really is. Lastly, the Darts looks are very unique and provides smooth curves that funnel down to aggressive front grills and back bumpers, including the LED racetrack lights. You do have to get the 2.4 Liter in order to maximize your performance, though, when looking at the Dart. I drove many other cars in my Dart's sales category when trying to decide on a new car and the Dodge Dart by far had the best performance and throttle response. My 2.4 Liter motor has a healthy 180 HP and plenty of response to the throttle when you need it. That return is engine performance and looks for the Dodge Dart. And I get something in return that the other cars do not offer. Yes it doesn't get as good gas mileage as either one of these cars mentioned, but I am averaging about 30-35 mpg. But also provides something unique and different than your Prius or Fit. The 2014 Dodge Dart is an excellent choice for people looking for a reasonably priced car with good gas mileage.
